Bridge and Locks, Fairfield, Ashton Canal

Seemingly frozen in time, this enchanting scene evokes thoughts of a bygone canal era. The stone footbridge and double locks are close to the former junction with the Hollinwood branch.

Fabulous spot. Let's hope they can reopen the Hollinwood Branch.

Hollinwood is a very sad and sorry place at the moment but if the H'wood branch were re-opened and perhaps punched through parallel to the xpressway to link with the Rochdale then the mind boggles. many greater obstacles have been overcom than those sitting on this branch.terryfidler@hotmail.com

The Hollinwood branch has a motorway (x3), a supermarket and houses built on it, it'll never reopen.

Are there any plans for renovating the Hollinwood branch or parts of it?
